Chocolate week 15th -19th October

The week leading up to the October half term holiday the English classes celebrated chocolate week.
As well as reading Roald Dahls book 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', we had fun with some other chocolate based activities.
First up, the two English classes joined up for a chocolate making and decorating workshop. Each pupil had 5 chocolate 'rounds' to decorate however they wished. The children then got to take their creations home to show and share with their families.
Later on in the week we did an experiement with chocolate. We discussed the differences between dark, milk and white chocolate and talked about which we thought would melt the fastest. The children spent 1 minute rubbing their hands together to warm them up, then place a chocoate in their palm. We then timed how long it took for the chocolate to melt and recorded our findings. We did this three times, once for each type of chocolate. At the end we discusedd the results, and why the chocolates did not take the same amount of time to melt.
At the end of the week the children watched the original 1971 film with Gene Wilder, 'Willy Wonker and the Chocolate Factory'.
